My First Blog Post

Hi! If you are reading this, you know two things: my name is Myra Jo and this is my blog.

I’m a senior advertising major in the UNC School of Media and Journalism (MJ School for short). I like to think that the university named the school after me, because Michael Jordan isn’t the only great MJ to come from UNC.

Can’t you just imagine me saying “I’m Myra Jo and I’m a Tar Heel” on the jumbotron?

I was told that I had to write a blog throughout the semester for the “Branding of Me” course. There are no other caveats– we just have to blog.

The first thing that popped into my mind to write about was YouTube. You may have heard of it…it’s a little website with just a few million videos on it.

Fun fact: The first video I ever uploaded was literally just a slideshow of Juicy Couture pictures from Google images along with some obnoxious pink text about how much I loved the brand. Needless to say, I am much more into watching YouTube videos than creating them now. BUT….that Juicy Couture video does have over 12,000 views!!!

I have been a self-proclaimed YouTube fanatic since around 2008 and there’s been a lot of change within YouTube during these (almost) 10 years. This blog will be a place for me to talk about all things YouTube including some of the changes over the years, my favorite YouTubers, and videos that I think are worth watching.

As a college student with a strong interest in digital media, I have seen how video has transformed the digital realm. I am a strong proponent for using video and YouTube has truly paved the path for the medium to thrive in the future of advertising and beyond. I’m excited to continue watching more YouTube videos and blogging about it as I go!
